Darren Rupert was born to a fairly well-off family. His parents were height-obsessed; they had a thirst for fame and wealth, and did everything they could to make themselves look like they were "living the life". They came from families who spent an exorbitant amount on body modification. Thus, Darren's hair and eyes are "natural". The color of his skin is a mixture of an actual natural darkness from his father's side of the family, and his mother's genetic modification to make herself look "sunbathed". Needless to say, Darren Rupert was not, and has never needed to be, a street urchin.

From a young age, Darren took an interest in technology. He excelled in most things logical, topping the standings in his school for math and science; his need to understand how things work led him into a long and complex relationship with computers and cell phones, televisions and subway systems--anything he could get his hands on. If he could take it apart, it was his to learn, to understand, and to develop further.

He built his first computer at age 8.

He designed a PDA/music player that fit around his wrist at age 10.

He started hacking at age 11.

First it was the school's system, to change a failing grade to an "A". He hadn't done the work to earn that grade, but he figured if he could figure out how to hack into the system and change it, he deserved it. This pattern of justifying the things he did didn't have to last too long. Mostly, he just stopped caring enough to need to by the time he was in high school. He would hack to steal money, almost exclusively to buy more technology and learn about it once he'd run out the rather sizable allowance his parents would give him. This went on until... well, until he was caught.

His parents were no-doubt furious when the police brought Darren to their home, threatening media smears about their family if it happened again. They shunned him, disowned him, and cast him out of their home. He was 14 at the time.

He was not, however, alone. His sister, eight years his senior at 22, was much more sensible. He'd always had a good relationship with her, and she took him into her studio apartment with her. She worked for a rather corrupt, smaller corporation, and made decent money doing it. Darren quit hacking for money, and focused on building customized computers for people. For a good year and a half, he was set.

Then there was a "slip" in his sister's company that she was forced to take the fall for. It resulted in her death... and a burning flame in Darren's heart. He started hacking again, but not for money. No, this time he broke into the company's system, took all the personal information he could get, and released the information to the public under the alias of "PistolPanic".

Immediately, he was recognized for his dangerous talent. Authorities put a bounty on him, social media took off with the name and created an urban legend out of him. More important, however, were the clients that began to line up, offering large payouts for the sudden underground celebrity "PistolPanic" (affectionately referred to as "Panic" by the online communities) to do the same thing to their competitors.

Panic, knowing the best way to start a business is to set the bar high, started at the biggest bidder, and hasn't stopped in the three years since the incident. He's retained total anonymity through endless dead-end trails and framing others, and he's been perpetuating his "legend" status online, starting discussions and singing his own praises where people don't believe he even exists. He's better than anyone. He knows that. And like hell he's keeping it to himself.
